1. Who we are

Tutcore is operated by Tutcore (Pty) Ltd, a private company registered in South Africa (registration number 2024/745094/07), based in Cape Town, Western Cape, South Africa. “Tutcore”, “we”, “us” and “our” mean that company.

Website: tutcoreacademy.com. Email: support@tutcoreacademy.com. Our address for the service of legal documents is available on request by email.

2. About these terms

“You” means the person using Tutcore (the student) and, where someone else pays for a student, also that person (the payer). By creating an account, using Tutcore or paying for it, you agree to these terms, including the privacy section (section 16).

Nothing in these terms takes away any right you have under South African law, including the Consumer Protection Act 68 of 2008 (CPA), the Electronic Communications and Transactions Act 25 of 2002 (ECTA) and the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 (POPIA). If any part of these terms conflicts with those laws, the law wins and the rest of these terms still applies.

3. Who can use Tutcore

  • Tutcore is for school learners preparing for the National Senior Certificate (NSC), and for people helping them.
  • If you are under 18, you may only use Tutcore with the permission of a parent or legal guardian, and they must agree to these terms on your behalf. By creating an account you confirm that you are 18 or older, or that your parent or guardian has agreed.
  • A parent, guardian or anyone else who pays for a student agrees to these terms for that student and confirms they may use the payment method they pay with.

4. Your account

  • Give us true and up-to-date details (name, email, school and grade), and keep them current in your profile.
  • An account is for one student only. Sharing your login, or letting anyone else use your account, is not allowed, and we may check for it.
  • Keep your password private. You are responsible for what happens on your account until you tell us it has been misused. If you think it has been, email us straight away.
  • You may sign in with Google instead of a password. Google then shares your name and email address with us.

5. What you get

Paid access gives the student video lessons, quizzes, worksheets and past-paper walkthroughs for the subject (tutor) and grade they paid for, for the period they paid for.

Tutcore supports what learners are taught at school; it does not replace school, a teacher or the official curriculum documents. We add, update, reorder and occasionally remove lessons to keep the content accurate and useful. We will not remove content in a way that takes away the main value of a period you have already paid for.

6. Plans, prices and access

We currently sell one plan: 2026 Finals access.

  • It is a once-off payment. There is no subscription and nothing is ever charged again. It does not renew.
  • Access starts as soon as PayFast confirms the payment and lasts one calendar month. It ends at 23:59 (South African time) on the same date in the following month. For example, paid on 2 October, access ends at 23:59 on 2 November. If the next month has no such date, access ends on its last day (paid on 31 January, access ends on 28 or 29 February).
  • Sales close on the closing date shown on the website. A payment that was started before the cut-off and completed shortly after it is still honoured.
  • Each purchase covers one student, for one subject (tutor) and one grade.

The price is shown in South African rand before you pay, and is the full amount you will be charged. Launch or special prices apply only while we show them and only to payments made during that time.

7. Paying

  • All payments are processed by PayFast, a South African payment provider. You pay on PayFast's secure page; we never see or store your card or bank details. PayFast's own terms also apply to the payment.
  • Access is switched on when PayFast confirms the payment to us, which usually takes a minute or two. Coming back to our website from PayFast does not by itself mean the payment went through.
  • While a payment is being confirmed, please don't pay again. If you are charged twice for the same thing, we refund the extra payment (section 9).

8. When someone else pays

A parent, guardian or sponsor may pay for a student, for example through a payment link the student sends them. In that case:

  • Access to Tutcore Academy is given to the student named on the payment, not to the payer. The payer does not get a Tutcore account or access to the student's work.
  • The payer only sees what is needed to pay: the student's first name, the course, the price and how long access lasts.
  • Anyone who has a payment link can use it to pay, so a student should only send it to the person they want to pay. Links expire and can be cancelled by the student.
  • The same refund rules (section 9) apply. Any refund goes back to the card or account that paid.

9. Cancellations and refunds

Access starts immediately once your payment is confirmed. By paying, you ask us to start the service straight away, and you agree that because of this the seven-day cooling-off period in section 44 of ECTA does not apply (section 42(2) of ECTA excludes services that begin, with your consent, within that period).

This means payments are not refundable once access has started, including if the student uses little or none of it, or does not get the results they hoped for.

We will always refund you if:

  • you were charged twice for the same thing;
  • you were charged a different amount from the one shown before you paid;
  • you paid but we could not give the student access, and we cannot fix it within a reasonable time; or
  • the law requires a refund in your situation.

To ask for a refund, email support@tutcoreacademy.comwith the student's name and email address, the date and amount of the payment, and the PayFast reference if you have it. We reply within 5 business days. Approved refunds are paid back through PayFast to the card or account that paid, usually within 10 business days, though your bank may take longer to show it.

10. Using Tutcore fairly

You may not:

  • share your account or login, or sell or give access to anyone else;
  • download, screen-record, copy, or re-upload our videos, quizzes, worksheets or other content, or share them in groups or on other websites;
  • use bots, scrapers or other automated tools on Tutcore, or try to get around how access is controlled;
  • try to break, overload or gain unauthorised access to Tutcore or other users' accounts; or
  • submit anything unlawful, abusive, hateful or that infringes someone else's rights (for example, in a suggested question).

11. Our content

All videos, quizzes, worksheets, walkthroughs, text, graphics and the Tutcore name and logo belong to Tutcore or to the tutors and others who licensed them to us. While you have access, we give the student a personal, non-transferable right to view them for their own studies. Nothing else is licensed to you.

If you send us a suggestion, question or feedback, you let us use it to improve Tutcore (for example, by making a lesson from a suggested question) without paying you.

12. No guarantee of results

We work hard to make the content accurate and helpful, but we do not guarantee any mark, pass or exam result. Results depend on each learner's own work, circumstances and the exam itself. If you find a mistake in our content, please tell us and we will fix it.

13. Changes to the service

We aim to keep Tutcore available at all times, but it may occasionally be down for maintenance or because of problems with our providers or the internet. We may improve or change features. If we permanently stop offering the course you paid for before your paid period ends, we will refund the unused part.

14. Suspending or closing an account

  • If you break these terms (for example, by sharing your account or copying content), we may suspend or close the account. Where the breach is serious or repeated, we do this without a refund. Where it is reasonable, we will warn you first and give you a chance to stop.
  • You may ask us to close your account at any time by emailing us. Closing an account ends access and is not a reason for a refund (section 9).

15. Our responsibility to you

As far as the law allows, we are not responsible for: indirect or consequential loss; exam results; problems caused by your device, internet connection or anything outside our reasonable control; or problems with PayFast or other services we do not run. As far as the law allows, our total responsibility to you for any claim is limited to the amount paid to us for the student in the 12 months before the claim.

Nothing in these terms limits our responsibility for gross negligence, for anything the CPA does not allow us to limit, or for anything else that cannot legally be limited.

16. Privacy and your personal information

We process personal information under POPIA. Tutcore (Pty) Ltd is the responsible party. Questions and requests about your information go to our Information Officer at support@tutcoreacademy.com.

What we collect

  • Account details: name, email address and password (stored securely by our sign-in provider; we can't see it), or your Google account name and email if you sign in with Google.
  • Profile details: school, grade, city and province, goal mark, and the subjects you choose.
  • Learning activity: which videos you watch and how far, quiz answers and scores, bookmarks, and questions you suggest.
  • Payment records: what was bought, amounts, dates and PayFast's payment references. Not card or bank details; PayFast handles those.
  • Technical information: sign-in cookies, error logs linked to your account, and your light/dark theme choice (stored only in your browser).
  • Your email address, if you ask us to tell you when Tutcore reopens.

Why we use it

  • to create and run your account and give you the access you paid for;
  • to show your progress and personalise your learning;
  • to process payments and refunds, and keep the records the law requires;
  • to answer your questions and send service emails (section 17);
  • to keep Tutcore secure and prevent account sharing and fraud; and
  • to improve our lessons, using information about how content is used.

We never sell your personal information, and we don't use it for advertising or share it for anyone else's marketing.

Learners under 18

POPIA treats information about anyone under 18 as a child's information, which needs the consent of a parent or guardian. A student under 18 who signs up confirms that their parent or guardian has agreed. A parent or guardian can email us at any time to see, correct or delete their child's information.

Who we share it with

We share only what each provider needs to do its job for us, and they may use it only for that:

  • PayFast, to take payments;
  • Supabase, which hosts our database and handles sign-in;
  • Vercel, which hosts the website;
  • Bunny.net, which delivers our videos;
  • our email provider, to send service emails; and
  • Google, only if you choose to sign in with Google.

Our tutors and staff see only what they need to support students, such as names, progress and questions students send in. We will also share information if the law requires it.

Some of these providers store information outside South Africa. We use only providers that are bound to protect it to a standard at least as strong as POPIA, as section 72 of POPIA requires.

How long we keep it

We keep your information while your account is open. When it is closed, we delete or anonymise it within a reasonable time, except payment records, which we keep for five years because tax law requires it.

Keeping it safe

Information is sent over encrypted connections, access is limited to people who need it, and our database only lets each student read their own information. No system is perfectly secure, but if a breach affects your information, we will tell you and the Information Regulator as POPIA requires.

Your rights

You may ask to see the personal information we hold about you, to correct or delete it, or object to how we use it. Email support@tutcoreacademy.com; we reply within 30 days. If you are unhappy with our answer, you can complain to the Information Regulator (South Africa) at inforegulator.org.za.

Cookies

We only use the cookies needed to keep you signed in, plus your theme choice stored in your browser. We don't use advertising cookies or third-party tracking.

17. Emails we send

We send emails you need about your account and payments (for example, confirming access). We only send news or offers if you asked for them, and every such email lets you unsubscribe.

18. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms, for example when we add a feature or the law changes. The date at the top shows the latest version. If a change significantly affects you, we will tell you by email or on the website before it applies. A change never takes away what you have already paid for.

19. Law and complaints

South African law applies to these terms. If something goes wrong, please email us first at support@tutcoreacademy.com; most problems are solved quickly that way. If we can't resolve it, you can contact the Consumer Goods and Services Ombud (CGSO) or the National Consumer Commission, or approach a South African court with jurisdiction.

20. General

  • These terms are the whole agreement between you and us about Tutcore.
  • If any part of them can't be enforced, the rest still applies.
  • If we don't enforce a term straight away, we can still enforce it later.
  • You may not transfer your account or these terms to anyone else.
